Employee Self Service
Employee Self Service (ESS) is a technology which allows you to manage your annual leave, access your payslips, and view your personal details and employment record held by Human Resources. It is available from anywhere (not just on campus) and can be accessed using your computer, tablet or smartphone.
To login to Employee Self Service use this link or the one at the top of this page. If you’re on campus and are already connected to the University network with your staff details, you will be automatically logged in similar to how you would login to other key University services (such as UoRLearn or Office 365).
If you are accessing ESS externally or remotely you may be prompted for ‘Additional security verification’ prior to gaining access to the ESS login. Follow the onscreen guidance and refer to the DTS guide for remote service access if you need further help.
Manager Self Service
Manager Self Service (MSS) is a similar technology introduced to provide line managers with access to specific employment related information about staff members they line manage. It will allow line managers to quickly see information on absence, leave approval, contract details and pay.
To login to MSS use this link or the one at the top of this page. If you’re on campus and are already connected to the University network with your staff details, you will be automatically logged in similar to how you would login to other key University services (such as UoRLearn or Office 365).
If you are accessing MSS externally or remotely you may be prompted for ‘Additional security verification’ prior to gaining access to the MSS login. Follow the onscreen guidance and refer to the DTS guide for remote service access if you need further help.
If you do not line manage anyyou will still be able to login but no information will be available for you to view.
Both Employee & Manager Self Service are compatible with all the major up to date Internet Browsers ( Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari) on PCs and Mobile Devices where applicable. Other browsers may work but this cannot be guaranteed.
If you have problems logging in or don't know your university username or password, please visit the DTS guide here or raise ticket via the IT Self Service Portal. If you have any questions about the information shown in Employee Self Service, please contact the HR Operations Team via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.

You can check your record at any time by logging into Employee Self Service. By doing this, you ensure your details are accurate, up-to-date and complete.

For example - contacting you if you are not at work, recruitment processes, DBS checks, equality and diversity monitoring and providing information returns (this list is not exhaustive). Access to, and the sharing of, this information is controlled very carefully. When reporting on our employees (for example, the annual data return to HESA - Higher Education Statistics Agency), only aggregate data is presented so that your individual data is protected.
There may be times that specific data is used in conjunction with an external provider to provide services to you as a University employee (e.g. Staff Survey, a salary sacrifice provider, online DBS disclosures.) This list is not exhaustive and we will endeavour to update this notice when other suppliers are added.
