Other ways to visit the University

Update: tier 4 restrictions

Unfortunately, our campus tours are currently suspended as Reading and Wokingham boroughs are currently under Tier 4 restrictions.

We hope to be able to offer this opportunity for our offer holders as soon as restrictions allow. Our hope is that this will be when Reading and Wokingham boroughs return to Tier 2 or lower pending government guidelines.

Hosted Campus Tours

As soon as we are able, we will reinstate our bookable hosted tours for prospective students and their supporters* to our Whiteknights Campus.

Taking a tour is a great way to experience a little of what life at Reading is like. Immerse yourself in our award-winning surroundings as we take you on a self-guided tour of our main Whiteknights campus using our downloadable audio app, taking in our key buildings, facilities and features.

With the health and wellbeing of you and our student and staff community in mind, this tour is largely outdoors. However, guidelines permitting visitors will be able to speak to staff and students at our indoor welcome and information point, and access designated toilet and hand-washing facilities.

*up to 5 accompanying guests can join each student if from the same household or support bubble.

Availability and booking

Our hosted tours are available by appointment only, details of how to book will be provided once we are able to recommence our tours. In the meantime you can still register your interest and we will be in touch once bookings are open.

Covid-19 restrictions

We continue to review the availability and hosting arrangements for these tours in line with government guidance and restrictions, and we ask that when considering  booking a tour all visitors observe any legal requirements and guidelines relating to the tier grading of the area they are travelling from.

Accompanying guests must be from the same household or support bubble as the student making the booking.

Visitors will be asked to scan in for NHS Track and Trace purposes.

Prospective students from other areas

If you are unable to travel or your local restrictions do not recommend it,  you can still register your interest in a future tour and explore our campus remotely through our Virtual Experience Hub.

Prospective students from tier 3 areas

If you are from an area in the UK categorised as tier 3 (very high alert), then we are sorry we cannot currently welcome you to campus at this time. You can still register your interest in a future tour and explore our campus remotely through our Virtual Experience Hub.

Virtual experience

Experience the University of Reading from wherever you are in the world.

When I first walked onto the Reading campus, it just felt like home. I knew straight away that this was the place for me and I would be happy here.

Visiting the London Road campus

The Institute of Education and our School of Architecture are both situated at our London Road campus, which has recently undergone a £21m transformation to provide superb purpose-built facilities.

At the moment, our self-guided audio tour app is only available for the main Whiteknights campus. However, we hope to provide a similar in-person experience of our London Road campus for students interested in our architecture and education courses in the near future.

You are of course still welcome to take our Whiteknights tour to see the majority of student facilities, and our staff will be happy to answer any questions about the London Road campus. You can also watch our London Road campus video tour.

For anyone interested in our teaching degrees, please ask us a question or search for a course.

Interested in postgraduate study?

Our campus tours are quite undergraduate-focused but can still be beneficial if you wish to get a general feel for the University. For more information on general postgraduate events as well as department-specific events we recommend you visit our postgraduate events page.

Teachers, advisors and parents

If you are a teacher or group leader and would like to book a campus tour, please contact the Global Recruitment Team (UK Student Recruitment & Outreach).

We also welcome parents and supporters to visit our campus with or without their young person but we also run some bespoke virtual activity specifically for parents.  Sign up here to receive our parents’ and supporters’ newsletter and be first to hear about our parents’ and supporters’ virtual events.
