Campus tours

Other ways to visit the University

Campus tours

Our campus tours are an excellent opportunity to see our beautiful Whiteknights campus, get a feel for student life, and learn more about the University of Reading. Our tours are led by student ambassadors. Although the tours are not course-specific, our ambassadors will be more than happy to answer any questions about student life and share their experiences.

Campus tours are around 60 to 90 minutes. Please dress for the weather, as your tour will be mostly outdoors. You should also wear comfortable shoes, as the tour will involve a lot of walking as you explore our 300-acre campus.

If you’re interested in studying education or architecture, our London Road campus, home of the Institute of Education and the School of Architecture, is only a short distance away. London Road is well worth a visit after your tour of Whiteknights.

Book your place

Please note: campus tours are not Open Days. Visit our Open Day page for more information.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the meeting point for the tour?

The meeting point is in the foyer of Henley Business School (building 138 on the campus map). You will be signed in by a staff member or student ambassador when you arrive.

Will I meet academics or visit departments?

Campus tours are general tours of the University; they will not include visits to departments or meetings with academics, unless you arrange a meeting in advance or book a tour that includes a subject visit. If you would like to speak to an academic, please contact them directly to arrange a meeting.

Will I be able to visit accommodation and see a room?

Due to all are rooms having a student in residence, we are unable to show you a room. Please visit our accommodation webpage to learn more about the types of room we offer.

Will there be other people in my tour group?

There may be other prospective students and their supporters on your tour. The group will be no larger than 15 people.

What time should I arrive for the campus tour?

We recommend arriving on campus 15 minutes before the start of your tour. This will give you time to walk from the car park or bus stop to the meeting point.

Where should I park?

Parking for this event is in car park 1A, which is on the left after entering the University’s main entrance on Shinfield Road. This is a pay and display car park. However, you can park for free if you print and display the parking permit that we attached to your confirmation email.

Will the tours be accessible?

Whiteknights is a large campus set in parkland with a lake. Although mostly level, with gentle slopes, there can be a considerable distance between buildings. The tour will include a lot of walking across our 300-acre campus. If you have any concerns, or wish to inform us of any accessibility needs, please email student.recruitment@reading.ac.uk.
