University of Reading appearing in news media including TV and radio

Chew gum and beetroot: A study from Dr Charlotte Mills (Food and Nutritional Sciences) found that chewing sugary gum and beetroot can lower blood pressure, reports The Times (print), The Telegraph (and print), BBC Radio Northampton, MedicalXPress, Mirage News, News Medical, and EurekAlert (republished by Head Topics, MSN, AOL, and Newsbreak). 

Health and wellbeing:

  • Comments from Professor Netta Weinstein (Psychology) about directionless phone use were featured by Vision Australia Radio.

Food and farming:

  • Regius Professor Hannah Cloke, Dr Akshay Deoras and Professor Andrew Charlton-Perez (all Meteorology) were quoted by Daily Mail (republished by My Press Today, MSN, and World News) about increasingly hot average temperatures. 
  • Wokingham Today quoted Professor Charlton-Perez on how extreme heat and weather can affect this year's World Cup. From our story: 'Extreme weather could make tournament most dangerous ever'

  • FT Adviser featured a prediction model created by Professor Radu Tunaru (Henley Business School), which correctly predicted the outcome of the World Cup’s first round. 
  • A sports results model created by Professor James Reade (Economics) which predicts match outcomes was featured by Koranmanado.

Heritage and culture:

  • LNG in Northern BC reported on research from Professor Mark Pagel (Ecology and Evolutionary Biology) into the oldest words in the human language.
