Teacher Training
We are one of the leading providers of teacher training in the UK, and are ranked third for education in the Guardian University Guide 2018.
Our Institute of Education is an established provider of high-quality training and research in education.
In the latest national assessment, 80% of our research outputs were rated world leading or internationally excellent (REF, 2014 – Education), positively impacting on educational policy and practice. The University has recently been ranked in the top 150 in the world for Education (QS World University Rankings by Subject, 2018).
Our passion for transforming lives through education is at the heart of our commitment to developing caring, reflective, professional educational practitioners. Our networks and the impact of our work are both local and global. Locally, work closely with over 300 well-established partner schools to train the next generation of outstanding teachers. Globally, our research, consultancy and other projects extend to countries as varied as China, Jamaica, the USA and Singapore.
At master’s level, we offer a broad range of courses including a flexible MA Education with specialist pathways; Postgraduate Certificates in Early Years Practice, Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) and Reflective Practice; and an extensive range of teacher training courses with first-rate placements. Additionally, we co-deliver an MA English Language Education course with Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.
Our new stand-alone CPD option, Developing Mentoring Excellence (Theory and Practice) is a short, intensive course via distance learning that improves practice and adds value for mentors in any profession or walk of life. It gives 20 credits against a University of Reading master's in Education.
