University of Reading appearing in news media including TV and radio

Bees please: Professor Simon Potts (Sustainable Land Management) featured in an episode of BBC Radio 4’sLife Without, discussing the importance of bees in nature.

Middle East conflict: 

  • Professor Marko Milanovic (Law) was quoted by South China Morning Post (andMSN) about AI use in the US-Israel conflict with Iran. With comments in Huffington Post and Newsweekrepublished by Yahoo News, Canada News, My Press Today, MSN, and Europe Sayson comments made by Pete Hegseth, US Secretary of War.
  • Professor Harmonie Toros (Politics and International Relations) spoke to BBC World Service Radio (replayed by global broadcasters) about current world affairs, including the US-Israel war on Iran.

  • Professor Milanovic was also quoted by Courthouse News on a recent legal case into whether Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza.
 

Health and wellbeing:

  • Professor Netta Weinstein (Psychology) was quoted by Gazeta, Kobietaand Yahoo Newson her research into spending time alone. From our story: Alone but not lonely: how solitude boosts wellbeing

Food and farming:

  • Yahoo News (republished by AOL) featured a study into the benefits of frozen fruit and vegetables.
  • Research from Dr Amelia Hood and Dr Tom Staton (Agriculture) on agroforestry was featured by Farmers Guardian and Business Green. From our story: How to make farms tree-friendly and boost food production
 

#PlanetPartners: working with global partners to protect the environment

  • BBC World Service, PBS (in US), Germanic News and Vision Radio Australia replayed aBBC Radio 4Inside Science interview with Professor Laura Wilcox (Meteorology) on a study showing acceleratingclimate change.
  • A study by Dr Matthew Greenwell (Ecology and Evolutionary Biology) into colour changing abilities in leaf-mimic katydids was featured by EurekAlert, Phys.org, and Mirage News. 

  • Dr Luke Elson (Philosophy) wrote for The Conversation about the difficulty of making long-term climate choices.

  • Professor Mathew Owens (Meteorology) was quoted by SciTech Dailyand Digit Patroxon his research into the earliest recording of a solar eclipse.

  • Future Zone reported on research into how climate change impacts extreme weather events.

  • Dr Stephen Burt (Meteorology) featured in an episode of BBC Radio Berkshire’sSecret Berkshire, discussing a tornado which occurred in Reading in 1840.

  • Dr Dina Rezk (History) wrote for Democracy in Africa about the release of imprisoned activists in Egypt.
  • Market Screenerreported on a partnership between NatWest and Henley Business School for VIBES week with quotes from Dr Andrew Hull (Henley Business School) in Workplace Journal.

  • Genocide Watchlisted Dr Nowrin Tamanna (Law) as a signatory for a letter about the imprisonment of journalist Shahriar Kabir.

  • The Stray Ferret provided a review of University-funded theatre production Glitch. 

  • Alfavita featured research from Professor Steve Mithen (Archaeology) on language in prehistoric humans.

  • A new Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) centenary exhibition at The Museum of English Rural Life was highlighted by Southern Gazette.
