UN climate report to feature Reading expertise
18 August 2025
Climate experts at the University of Reading are set to play a major role in the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report.
The report is a comprehensive assessment of knowledge on climate change, its causes, potential impacts and response options.
Professor Richard Allan and Dr Andrea Dittus from the Department of Meteorology will contribute to Working Group I, which examines the physical science underpinning past, present and future climate change. Professor Benoit Mayer, from the University of Reading’s School of Law, will be a lead author of Working Group III, which focuses on climate change mitigation, assessing methods for reducing emissions and removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.
The key findings of the IPCC Seventh Assessment Report (AR7) are due to be published around late 2029. The Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), published in 2021, featured contributions from a dozen academics at the University of Reading.
Professor Peter Miskell, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience at the University of Reading, said: “Our researchers don't just study the physical mechanisms driving climate change - they're actively developing the solutions we need to address it. The University of Reading is a world leader in providing both the science and the practical pathways forward in humanity's response to climate change. Our cutting-edge research in meteorology and law creates real-world impact, helping to deliver the tools needed to build a sustainable future.”
