University of Reading appearing in news media including TV and radio

Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter visit: The New York Times (republished by DNYUZ) mentioned that actors Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter visited the Samuel Beckett Collection in preparation for performing ‘Waiting for Godot’. Professor Jim Knowlson is quoted.

Health and wellbeing: 

  • Professor Glenn Gibson (Food and Nutritional Sciences) is quoted by Food Navigator on how prebiotics in drinks work.  
  • The Times highlighted research from Dr Gemma Walton (Food and Nutritional Sciences) on probiotic supplements.  
  • Professor Julie Lovegrove (Food and Nutritional Sciences) is quoted by BBC Good Food on the nutritional benefits to eating more beans, peas, and lentils. 
  • FemTech Insider report on a collaboration between the University and BoobyBiome to develop a device to preserve the microbiome of breastmilk. 

Heritage and culture: 

  • National Geographic (Poland) featured research from Dr Brian Pickles (Ecology) which found the first evidence of multispecies dinosaur herding. From our story: Dinosaur tracks show first evidence of multispecies herding 
  • New Atlas and The Lake provided further coverage of research which found an evolutionary link between the size of primates’ thumbs and their brain. Featuring comments from Dr Joanna Baker (Ecology and Evolutionary Biology). 
  • BBC Radio Berkshire featured comments from PhD student Dr Begoña Garrido (Languages and Cultures) on their graphic novel based on interviews from women impacted by the regime of General Franco.  
  • Art UK features various images of dancers from the University of Reading’s Art Collection.  
  • Professor Kate Williams (History) wrote an article in The Telegraph (republished by AOL) on the legacy of the Duchess of Kent. 

Food and farming: 

  • FoodTechBiz highlighted research from Professor Keshavan Niranjan (Food and Nutritional Sciences) on how sustainable brand packaging influences the choices of shoppers.  
  • Daisy Wood (Sustainable Land Management) wrote an article for Farmers Weekly about adapting to regenerative farming.  

#PlanetPartners: working with global partners to protect the environment 

  • WDUN and Telegraph India quoted Dr Akshay Deoras (Meteorology) on how climate change is intensifying monsoon activity in India.  
  • Bild highlighted research from Professor Bill Collins (Meteorology) which found an unexpected warming impact from ozone recovery. From our story: Ozone will warm planet more than first thought 
  • Europe Says mentioned research from PhD student Kerry Stewart which found that 500 bird species could go extinct in the next 100 years. From our story: 500 bird species face extinction within the next century 
  • Japan Today provided further quotes from Professor David Brayshaw (Meteorology), via AFP, about how Britain’s energy grid must change as renewable energy usage increases.  
  • BBC News (republished by Yahoo!News and WorldNews), Reading Today, and The Reading Chronicle report on the Clean Air Living Matters project, organised by Research Scientist Marta O'Brien. 
  • Simple Flying featured comments from Professor Paul Williams (Meteorology) on how climate change is making air turbulence worse, with further mentions from Daily Mirror (print) and Sustainability World.  
  • News Portal mentioned a new art exhibition opening in Brazil, based on Professor Ed Hawkins’ (Meteorology) climate stripes.  

Business and society: 

  • Ragan highlighted research from Professor Benjamin Laker (Henley Business School) on how CEOs think about and engage with culture through marketing. 
  • Hypertext, HCN, Stuff, ABS News, ITWeb (republished by MSN) and various other outlets provided further coverage of the Huawei Women in Tech Digital Skills Training Programme, which was held at Henley Business School Africa, with SME Tech Guru quoting COO Jacques le Roux. 
  • Abigail Rappaport, executive coach at Henley Business School, was listed by Computer Weekly (republished by Knowledia and World of Software) as one of the top 50 Most Influential Women in Tech UK. 
  • Metro (republished by MSN) and The Pinnacle Gazette featured comments from Professor Adrian Palmer (Henley Business School) about why Bodycare went into administration.
