Most courses will list a ‘typical offer’ with their course information. Entry to all courses at the University of Reading is competitive, so even if you hold (or are predicted to achieve) grades matching our ‘typical offer’, you are not guaranteed an offer of a place on a degree course.
Note that entry requirements on the subject pages are only an indicator. We sometimes update entry requirements throughout the year, so check online or contact the Admissions Office for the latest information. In addition, we treat each application on individual merit, so don’t rule yourself out.
If you are unsure whether your predicted grades would be acceptable for entry, contact our Admissions Office staff for advice. If you are made an offer of a place, the conditions that you need to meet to take up your place on the course will be detailed in our offer.
A levels/AS levels
Typical offers for most of our courses are expressed in terms of achievement across three A levels (though some courses will make a slightly different offer if you are studying four A levels, or three A levels and an AS level). A small number of courses make use of the UCAS tariff, details of which can be found on the UCAS website. Please note that all offers exclude General Studies.
International Baccalaureate (IB)
We welcome students presenting the full IB diploma. If you are offered a place, we will specify an overall score that you will need to achieve. Where a course requires specific subject knowledge equivalent to A level, you will be asked to achieve a particular grade at higher level.
We accept a wide range of overseas qualifications including (but certainly not limited to) the Malaysian STPM, Hong Kong A levels and Diploma of Secondary Education, Advanced Diplomas, Singapore A levels and Brunei A levels. You can find country and region-specific information on our international pages.
