‘Informative’, ‘truly amazing’ and ‘very interesting’ – these are some of the descriptions by people taking mental health and psychology online courses offered by the University of Reading.
For one parent, studying the Understanding Depression and Low Mood in Young People course had a profound impact on the life of a young person they were working with.
Claire said: “An excellent short course: informative and practical. This course was ideal for me as I am a parent supporting a young person with depression.
“It explains the triggers for this illness, how you can help and support a young person and the importance of looking after yourself. I often struggle with knowing what to say and what not to say and this course has made me feel more confident in communicating.”
Claire is one of hundreds of learners who have rated the University of Reading’s mental health and psychology courses highly.
Charlene, who completed the Understanding Anxiety, Depression and CBT course, said: “I enjoyed your course very much and have integrated some of the CBT therapy into my daily life. I have also added meditation, which helps focus my moods more.
“My boss has noticed I don't get as stressed as quickly. It is truly amazing. Thank you.”
Speaking of the same course, Susan said: “I am a social worker and I liked the structure of the course, the examples were great and really liked having a go and then seeing a completed example. Straightforward and to the point and useful for my day-to-day work.”
