Postgraduate taught entry requirements

You are normally required to have a good undergraduate honours degree (or equivalent from a university outside the UK). If you have other qualifications and a number of years’ relevant work experience then you may also be eligible to apply.

Some courses have additional entry requirements which are specified in the individual course sections of this website. 

You can choose to start your taught postgraduate course immediately after your undergraduate degree, or after a number of years of employment to enhance your career prospects.

We welcome applicants who are able to demonstrate their English language proficiency at the point of application but we also have a number of ways to support you in achieving your academic potential at Reading through our excellent English language support, before or during your main course of study.

The English language levels generally required for your courses are outlined below. However, when you apply please simply let us know your current level of English (through your most recent International English Language Test Score (IELTS) or equivalent score) and we will be very happy to advise you on the best route to a Reading degree. Our normal requirements (depending on the course) are:

• an overall score of 7.0 in the International English Language Test Score (IELTS) with no individual element scoring less than 6.0, or
• an overall score of 6.5 in the International English Language Test Score (IELTS) with no individual element scoring less than 5.5
