Our foundation programmes offer you a direct pathway into studying at the University of Reading if you do not have the typical entry qualifications.

We offer a range of exciting degree courses — from science to arts and humanities — that can be accessed through a foundation year. They offer a broad, immersive learning experience and ease the transition to university life.

Our foundation year programmes also aim to:

  • prepare you to study your chosen subject at undergraduate level

  • embed core academic skills and build your confidence within authentic, subject-relevant contexts

  • spark engagement and curiosity through meaningful learning experiences and enquiry-led approaches

  • foster a sense of identity, connection and belonging in your chosen discipline, and across the wider University community.

Depending on your chosen degree, you will learn through a combination of lectures, tutorials, practical classes and workshops.

After the foundation year

The skills you’ll learn in the foundation year will prepare you to begin your first year of degree study.

You are guaranteed a place on your chosen undergraduate course upon successful completion of the foundation year to a satisfactory level.
