Welcome to students from Beihang University 


Join our community of inquisitive thinkers working to solve problems of the twenty-first century through technology. Study at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Reading.

You will learn the essential skills needed for a career in computer sciences including programming, software design, networking, operating systems, web technology and computer security. These skills ensure our students are well-placed upon graduation, with graduate destinations ranging from small start-up companies to multinationals such as Bank of America, JP Morgan and Microsoft.

Our enviable location places us in the heart of the UK's IT sector, with companies such as Oracle, Cisco Systems, Hewlett Packard (HP) and Intel having their UK headquarters nearby. Several of these companies have provided active input into our teaching, ensuring the skills we pass on are relevant to the needs of the IT industry.

BSc cOMPUTER SCIENCE PROGRAMME

Beihang University and the University of Reading became partners in 2018 and have developed close academic links. Beihang University is a well reputed university in China that specialises in engineering, technology and natural sciences.

The 2+2 partnership in Computer Science allows students to complete the first two years in Beihang, studying the Advanced Diploma in Computer Science and Software Design programme which is accredited by the SQA (Scottish Qualification Agency).

After completing the programme, students can transfer to the University of Reading to part 2 of the BSc Computer Science for the remaining two years. Students are then awarded a degree from the University of Reading upon successful completion of the programme.

Entry requirements

Successful completion of the Beihang University SQA Advanced Diploma in Computer Science and Software Design with an average grade of 2.1 or above in Year 2.

English language requirements

IELTS 6.5 with no component below 5.5.

Fees

Students from Beihang University are entitled to a 10% discount.

Campus life

Our Department of Computer Science is located within our beautiful, award-winning Whiteknights campus – a vibrant setting with a wide range of facilities where you can study, have fun and relax.

We have a newly refurbished library on campus in addition to a variety of venues to shop, eat, drink and socialise.

Our award-winning Students' Union runs over 150 clubs, societies and volunteering activities. You’ll also have access to the extensive sports facilities on offer, including Sportspark.

The University is within walking distance of the town centre and there are also regular buses from campus. Accessing London is simple, with trains from Reading town centre taking around 30 minutes.
