AI Training

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Guidance and Training

This site explains how to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) safely at the University of Reading. It covers which tools are approved by Digital Technology Services (DTS), how to protect University data, and where to find training.

The 3 Rules for Using AI at the University

Before you use any AI tool, you must follow these rules:

  1. Protect University data: Do not put personal, sensitive, or confidential University data into public AI tools (like the free version of ChatGPT). Always follow the Information Management and Policy Services (IMPS) data protection guidelines.
  2. Check the facts: AI tools often make mistakes or invent information (known as "hallucinations"). You are responsible for fact-checking and verifying anything an AI tool generates before you use it in your work or studies.
  3. Think about the environment: AI requires significantly more computing power and energy than standard web searches. Use it when it is genuinely useful, rather than by default.
