Analyse and discuss the films and television programmes that you love, while learning practical skills for your future career.

You will have the opportunity to combine the study of ground-breaking theory with practical application, using our purpose-built £11m facilities that feature a multi-camera film and TV studio, a digital cinema, and dedicated recording studio and mixing suite.

You will study the complex histories and social impact of your chosen subject using various critical approaches and have the flexibility to specialise in your favourite areas. Depending on your chosen modules, you will also have the option to collaborate on short films and television pieces. This can include directing, projection, sound and lighting as well as post-production techniques such as editing, colour grading and sound mixing.

With the support of dedicated technicians, you will develop your technical skills in multimedia spaces designed to encourage innovation and creativity. This focus on collaboration in both our teaching and your creative development places the student community at the heart of the Department.

Additionally, we're working with Shinfield Studios to develop skills and training opportunities for our students. Shinfield Studios's film and TV production hub is being established on land owned by the University just outside of Reading, and will support Britain’s fast growing creative industries and host a variety of film and television production.

Our department proudly subscribes to the industry-leading BAFTA Albert scheme, which supports film-and-television makers in their efforts to work sustainably and to limit their environmental impact.

Courses

I could not quantify how many times that having ‘BA History with Theatre’ from Reading actually won over an employer on paper. But I would not be the actor I am today without my experience at FTT. And therefore, would not have landed the jobs I have.
