University of Reading appearing in news media including TV and radio

Health and wellbeing:

  • Professor Stella Chan (Psychology) is quoted by Medscape on the effectiveness of over the counter remedies for depression.

Food and farming:

  • AAFarmer features a new survey, jointly co-ordinated by the University, into how farmers protect rapeseed crops from a particular type of beetle. 

#PlanetPartners: working with global partners to protect the environment

  • BBC News, EurekAlert, Scienmag, Newsbytes, TravelTomorrow and Phys.org highlight a new study from PhD student Joana Medeiros (Meteorology), finding that global warming will increase flight turbulence as the atmosphere becomes less stable.   • Dr Jess Neumann (Geography and Environmental Science) is quoted by Manchester Evening News (republished by MSN) on this summer potentially being the hottest on record, and its negative impacts.
  • Professor Richard Allan (Meteorology) is quoted by NewScientist (print) on how a series of El Niña events may have increased 2023 global temperatures.

Business and society:

  • Dr Rodrigo Perez-Vega (Henley Business School) wrote for FE News about the potential of ChatGPT’s new study mode feature.
  • DataWeek highlight Henley Business School as a partner of ABB in providing graduates with a Higher Certificate in Management Practice.
  • The Independent republished an article written by Professor Paul Glaister (Mathematics and Statistics) in The Conversation, about concerns over maths skills of those not studying it after 16.

Heritage and culture:

  • Further coverage of a new study led by Dr Joanna Baker and Professor Chris Venditti (both Ecology and Evolutionary Biology), discovering an evolutionary correlation between primate thumb dexterity and brain size, including: Earth.com, Tribune, AOL, Yahoo! News, Splash FM, Daily Star, MSN, Western Morning News, Talk TV, and Talk Radio. Dr Joanna Baker also spoke to BBC Radio Berkshire, BBC Radio Oxford, BBC Radio Scotland, and BBC World Service Radio (also aired on public state radio stations in the US).
