The University of Reading is celebrating ten years of successfully delivering engaging and innovative online learning courses. This week, the University will take a closer look at some of the courses it offers and the impacts they have made on learners. Read yesterday's story.
“After completing the course I achieved the level of understanding I wanted and have the tools required to explore the subject matter further on my own. I believe I would have an advantage starting a qualification in this subject area with the knowledge and understanding I gained from this course.”
That’s the view of Ben, an online learner who completed the University of Reading’s Supporting Successful Learning in Primary School course.
The course is one of multiple online teaching courses produced with expert insight from the University’s Institute of Education. It has 650 reviews with an average rating of 4.8 stars.
Supporting Successful Learning in Secondary School, also produced by the University of Reading, has 154 reviews with an average rating of 4.7 stars.
Other courses focused on education for youngsters include resources on supporting multilingual children’s language development and teaching tips for helping children to learn about climate and sustainability in outdoor settings.
Skills for students
As well as learning resources for primary and secondary school children, the University of Reading has provided online courses for prospective, current and postgraduate University students so they can develop and complement their academic skills.
This ranges from courses on learning more about University life and finance to beginners and intermediate courses in developing English language skills for foreign students.
Kana, who studied the Intermediate Guide to Writing in English for University Study, said: “The course walks you through the whole process of writing an essay. I've always been nervous about essays and I finally realised that it was because I honestly didn't know what I was doing. This course really helped me out. My confidence and skill have grown enormously.”
