Reading sustainability runner-up in Times University Guide

The University of Reading has been named Runner-up University of the Year for Sustainability 2027 in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2027.

The University was also highly ranked at 35 overall in the guide's UK university rankings, reflecting Reading's continued strength across teaching, research and student experience.

The Good University Guide highlighted Reading's long-standing leadership in climate and environmental sciences, as well as major investments to reduce the University's environmental impact.

Recent initiatives that drew praise for the University of Reading in its listing in the Good University Guide include the installation of new heat pumps at the SportsPark, the installation of hundreds of new solar panels across campus, and the expansion of food waste recycling facilities.

The guide also focused on the University's new Learning Garden, created as part of its centenary celebrations. Located on the Whiteknights campus, the outdoor teaching space in a revitalised walled garden supports immersive learning and community engagement while bolstering the University's commitment to sustainability and climate education.

The ranking comes alongside strong improvements in student experience measures. The guide noted that Reading has risen 29 places in analysis of the latest National Student Survey (NSS), reflecting positive student engagement and satisfaction with their university experience.
