UK top 30 for Reading: THE World University Rankings 2026

The University of Reading has maintained its position in the top 30 in the UK, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026 published today [9 October].
Reading is ranked at joint 27 in the UK, out of 109 institutions included in the table.
The University is ranked at 201-250 overall in the world ranking. The 2026 rankings feature almost 2,200 institutions, an increase of about 100 on previous editions.
This year, Reading has shown strong improvement in the ‘teaching’ pillar and is now ranked at 287 in the world, up from 351 last year.
The University also continues to rank very highly for ‘international outlook’, ranking at 54 in the world, reflecting Reading’s status as a global university with campuses on three continents and students from more than 160 countries.
Professor Peter Miskell, University of Reading Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience, said: "We're pleased to maintain our position in the UK's top 30 universities, according to these latest university rankings.
“The increasing number of institutions that are featured in the ranking means that maintaining our position becomes harder each year, and requires continual improvements.
“We are happy to see a significant uplift in our teaching score this year, which reflects our commitment to educational excellence. Combined with our top 100 ranking for international outlook, these results demonstrate Reading's strength as a globally-minded institution delivering outstanding student experiences."
