13 September 2025
The University of Reading has performed strongly in key areas in the Guardian University Guide 2026, published today.
Reading’s global reputation for excellence in food and farming, and for sustainability and climate change, are reflected in Top 10 subject rankings for Animal Science and Agriculture, ranked at 7 in the UK, in Nutrition and Food Science (3), and Earth and Marine Sciences (4).
Overall, the Guardian University Guide 2026 ranks Reading at 65 in the UK, from 123 institutions in total.
A century of excellence
A University of Reading spokesperson said: "As we approach our centenary as a university in 2026 we continue to invest in our students and our campuses worldwide, and are showing global and national leadership on environmental sustainability. This makes Reading an outstanding environment for learning, research, and making changes for the better."
Particular innovations for undergraduate students include a new scholarship scheme, the Global Sustainability Leaders Scholarship, linked to the University's strong commitment to sustainability. Each year, up to 400 top-achieving students from the UK and internationally studying any undergraduate degree subject will be offered scholarship support of £6,000 per year to help with maintenance and living costs for every year of full-time study, up to four years.
