The University of Reading is celebrating ten years of successfully delivering engaging and innovative online learning courses. This week, the University will take a closer look at some of the courses it offers and the impacts they have made on learners.
Social media has been awash with the question: how often do men think about the Roman Empire?
It transpired that a lot of men are apparently consumed by all things Roman, with many admitting that they thought about aspects of Roman life daily.
For those transfixed with this period of history, the University offers an online course all about the Empire’s influence in Britain.
It’s not just for men. Janet, who studied the ‘Dead Interesting: Uncovering Roman Britain in Old Museum Collections’ course, said: “My first online course. [It was] neatly arranged in bite sized chunks with plenty of extension materials. Not too much technical language to get my 70-year-old brain around and it was free. What's not to like?”
Rome enthusiasts can also go on a virtual tour of the ancient city by enrolling on another of the University’s online courses.
If modern history or music are more your thing, then Anarchy in the UK: A History of Punk from 1976-1978 may be up your street.

Over the past week, the University has highlighted online courses focusing on climate and sustainability, food and farming, mental health, education and studying to mark the tenth anniversary of the University of Reading’s free online courses.
