23 June 2023
A new partnership will see some of Uzbekistan’s most promising young researchers study at the University of Reading.
An agreement with the El-yurt Umidi Foundation in Uzbekistan was signed on Monday, 19 June, to support students coming to study in Reading.
The “El-Yurt Umidi” Foundation is a scholarship funding organisation in Uzbekistan. Set up in 2018, its main objective is to educate Uzbekistan’s top professionals in the top 300 universities worldwide.
In 2021 the University of Reading was added to the list of universities of the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation to host Uzbekistani undergraduate and postgraduate students.
University of Reading Pro-Vice Chancellor Mark Fellowes attended the ceremony and signed the agreement beside Deputy Executive Director of the El-yurt Umidi Foundation, Dr Javokhir Akhmedov.
Professor Fellowes said: “The students who will benefit from this partnership will study with some of the world’s top experts in disciplines including law, architecture and economics.
“Our collaboration is another sign that Reading is a truly global University and that we are finding more ways to help the world.”
Since its inclusion in the list of universities, the University of Reading has received 23 students with El-Yurt Umidi funding.
The agreement between Reading and El-Yurt Umidi Foundation will see the University offer a 10% tuition fee discount to El-yurt Umidi Foundation scholars.
