University of Reading appearing in news media including TV and radio

THE sustainability rankings: The University has ranked 61st equal in Times Higher Education's Impact Rankings 2023, Wales Online reports. The rankings measure universities' contributions to the United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Reading ranked second place for "responsible consumption and production", eighth for "life on land", and tenth for "climate action". Read our news story.

Health and wellbeing:

  • Dr Simon Clarke and Professor Ian Jones (both Biological Sciences) are quoted by the Daily Mail, Express Digest, VN Explorer, and Today Headline, explaining and making sense of the recent rise in newborn deaths in France from the usually mild virus, Echovirus-11. 
  • Professor Ian Givens (IFNH/Agriculture) is quoted by The Daily Mail and Public News Time, commenting on the nutritional value of milk alternatives.
  • Further coverage of a study co-authored by Professor Gunter Kuhnle (Food and Nutritional Sciences) which has found that flavanols, a micronutrient found in tea, berries and apples, have a positive effect on memory by BBC Learning English, Health Line, Fox 5 Online, Sinar Harapan, and Bangladesh Weekly. #PlanetPartners: working with global partners to protect the environment 

  • Dr Alex Baker (Meteorology) is quoted by the Mirror on a study he co-authored which found climate change is increasing the probability that tropical cyclones develop into hurricanes.  
  • A grant secured by the University which will fund the decarbonisation of Whiteknights Campus's heating system is reported by RDG Today. Read our news story.
  • Matt White (Director of Campus Commerce) is quoted by Public Sector Catering (in print) on the carbon footprint of ingredients used by caterers. 

#UniForReading: our role as a civic university  

  • Maidenhead Advertiser, Windsor Express, and Slough Express name the University as a supporter of BFL Skill Clusters, which aims to fund and support the accessibility of work in screen production. Read our news story.
