University of Reading appearing in news media including TV and radio

Viral flooding demo: Continued coverage of Dr Rob Thompson's (Meteorology) online video which shows how droughts impact how the ground absorbs water on TV and radio, including: ITV 1 News, BBC 1, Talk TV, Talk Radio, ITV (online), BBC, Evening Standard, Yahoo!, Wales Online, My London and Daily Record, and over radio on BBC Radio 5 and BBC Radio Solent.

  • Professor Hannah Cloke (Geography/Meteorology) is quoted in print and online by Sky News (online), ITV (online), LBC (online), The Guardian (and in print), The Times (and in print), Independent (and in print), Express (and in print), The Daily Telegraph (in print), Daily Mail (and in print), BBC, Evening Standard, Aol., Daily Mirror (in print), The Sun (in print), Metro (in print), Heart Radio (online), Smooth Radio (online), Yahoo!, Western Morning News (in print), Western Mail (in print), Western Daily Press (in print), The Glasgow Herald (in print), The Reading Chronicle, Your Local Guardian, Swindon Advertiser, Express and Star, Shropshire Star, The Standard, Glasgow Evening Times, The Bolton News, York Press, Belfast Telegraph, and over one hundred other regional outlets on the impact of rain on the drought and danger of flash flooding in cities, the Independent, Yahoo!, and News Break on mitigating climate impact, the Huffington Post and Yahoo! on the changing definition of UK heatwaves, and i News (and in print) on how to prevent curb-side flooding. Professor Cloke was also interviewed by Channel 4 News (no link) and ITV News (no link) last week on the UK drought.

  • Dr Rob Thompson (Meteorology) is quoted by BBC Radio Wales on the threat of flashfloods and thunderstorms; his article on The Conversation on drought is republished by Berkshire Live, Essex Live, Staffordshire Live, and Wales Online; and he is quoted by i News (and in print) on rainfall and drought.
  • Dr Helen Griffith (Geography) spoke to LBC Radio and BBC Radio London about flooding in urban areas. 
  • Professor Ed Hawkins (Meteorology) is quoted by Henley Standard on the importance of reducing emissions. 
  • Write Caliber, UAE Times, Zawya, WAM, and others report on the University's partnership with various meteorological centres and institutes to expand research on rain enhancement science. 

 

COVID-19: expert comment on the pandemic

  • Dr Al Edwards (Pharmacy) is quoted by i News (and in print) on the newest 'bivalent' Covid vaccination, able to target the original strain of Covid alongside the Omicron variant. 
  • Dr Simon Clarke (Biological Sciences) was interviewed by LBC Radio News on the significance of the new 'bivalent' vaccine.
