Climate Education Action Plan: The University and partners, including the Department for Education, yesterday launched a Climate Education Action Plan, putting into practice the conclusions from the Climate Education Summit held in September. Read our news story.

  • Reading.co.uk reported the launch, quoting the Vice-Chancellor and Professor Andrew Charlton-Perez (Meteorology).
  • Andrew Happle (Institute of Education) was also interviewed by BBC Radio Berkshire about the importance of climate education across all subjects.

  • Professor Hannah Cloke (Geography and Meteorology) and PhD researcher Jeff Da Costa's (Environmental Science) article on The Conversation, on the response of European countries to the devastating floods in the summer, was republished by Yahoo News, Global Advisors, and Foreign Affairs. 
  • Professor Hannah Cloke (Geography and Meteorology) spoke to BBC News about the effect of climate change on flooding and extreme weather.
  • Professor Ed Hawkins (Meteorology) was quoted by Next Billion on human-caused climate change, and his climate stripes were featured on True Viral News. 
  • Professor Richard Allan (Meteorology) was quoted by Mirror and Today UK News on increased flooding, greenhouse gasses, and extreme weather under climate change.
  • Professor Nigel Arnell's (Meteorology) article on The Conversation, comparing what the world would be like at 1.5°C  and 3°C warmer was republished by Cambio Politico. 
  • A Kerrang! interview with the frontman of rock band Enter Shikari, who are performing at COP26, mentions that they have close ties with Professor Ed Hawkins (Meteorology) having used his warming stripes graphic on stage during their world tour in 2019.
  • Dr Ella Gilbert (Meteorology) unpicked the events at COP26 with BBC Radio Berkshire. 

COVID-19: expert comment on the pandemic

  • Dr Simon Clarke (Biological Sciences) answered BBC Radio London listeners’ questions about booster jabs; spoke to DW News about the Molnupiravir treatment for Covid; to BBC Radio Berkshire about booster jabs, and to BBC Radio 5 Live on jabs and the effectiveness of the vaccine. He was quoted by Medical News Today on vaccine protection and transmission at home
  • Dr Netta Weinstein's (Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences) study on solitude during the pandemic was mentioned by Zoomer.

  • Dr Jonathan Mitchley (Biological Sciences) answered BBC Radio Coventry and Warwickshire's questions about how plants age and die. 
  • Dr Paddy Bullard (English Literature) answered BBC Radio Berkshire's questions on what drew him to Reading.
  • Reading was mentioned by The Tab as one of four institutions striking over pensions. 
  • Henley Business School was mentioned as a supporter of Rebel Business School by NW Connected.
  • Dr Lebene Soga (Henley Business School) was mentioned by Sentido Comun on his analysis of how managers and staff interact virtually. 
  • Yahoo!, Qontigo, Insider, Cision, Morning Star, Ticker Tech, Finanzen.net, The Street, WMBF News and others report that Reading graduate Axel Lomholt has been appointed as Chief Product Officer, Indices & Benchmark for Qontigo.
