#PlanetPartners: Reading’s global work for a sustainable future

  • The University has today launched a campaign running 4-27 May showcasing examples of work institutionally and by colleagues to tackle global societal and environmental problems through support of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. The campaign is off the back of the recent published THE Impact Rankings and will highlight one of the 17 SDGs each day throughout May. Read our news story for more information and a campaign schedule, and please share your own examples of how you are supporting the SDGs on social media using the hashtags #PlanetPartners and #sdgoals or with us via email.
  • BBC News at Ten interviewed Professor Hannah Cloke (GES) in a piece looking ahead to COP26 and asking what world leaders must do reduce carbon emissions. BBC Science Editor David Shukman also tweeted to praise Professor Ed Hawkins (Meteorology) on Twitter, after his data visualisation showing global temperatures through time was featured in the piece.
  • The Guardian and Yahoo News cover Reading research on Antarctic ice shelf melt, quoting Dr Ella Gilbert (Meteorology).
  • Dr David Rose (Agriculture) spoke to BBC Radio 4 about environmentally friendly machinery.  
  • Professor Elizabeth Robinson (Agriculture) was interviewed on BBC Radio 5 about reducing the UK’s emissions.
  • Reading research on CO₂ emissions is mentioned in The Henley Standard and Phone Week.

COVID-19: expert comment on the pandemic

  • Professor Ian Jones (Biological Sciences) is quoted by The Times on immunity levels after lockdown.
  • Multiple UK regional news sites, including Berkshire Live, My London News, Nottingham Post and Wales Online, republished an article by Dr Uma Kambhampati (Economics) on the India COVID-19 crisis, originally published by The Conversation.
  • Dr David Rose (Agriculture) featured on an International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) podcast about Farming, Covid-19, and Farmers’ Mental Health. Read our news story.
  • Reading research on recognising people wearing facemasks features on multiple news sites across the UK, including Get Reading, My London and the Daily Post.
  • Professor Yipeng Liu (Henley Business School) is quoted in China Daily in an article about political systems in relation to the pandemic.
