COVID-19: expert comment on the pandemic 

  • Dr Simon Clarke (Biological Sciences) spoke to GB News about the final lifting of restrictions expected in July; LBC News about higher infection levels in Manchester; and is quoted in The Daily Mail about Covid-19 seasonal patterns of COVID.
  • Dr Al Edwards (Pharmacy) is quoted in The Guardian, Yahoo and The Business Telegraph on calls for the Covid symptom list to be expanded. Dr Edwards is also quoted in an article for The i (print also) on TikTok videos teaching school pupils how to fake Covid tests.

#PlanetPartners: Reading's global work for a sustainable future

  • Farmers Weekly reports that UoR is a part of the ‘Close The Gap' project to achieve better and healthier hedgerows in the UK, to protect the wildlife that live there and combat climate change.
  • PhD researcher Chloe Brimicombe (Meteorology) spoke to BBC Radio Berkshire about heatwaves.
  • Shaun Walters, park ranger for Langley Mead, which is owned and managed by the University, spoke to BBC Radio Berkshire (approx. 3.35pm) about the nature reserve in Shinfield and an upcoming National Meadows Day event being held there this weekend.   • Ascot News covers a story on the success of the Wokingham vaccine centre, which was open to UoR students.
  • Theatre Weekly and Theatre News report on Reading Rep Theatre's outreach plans to provide access to the arts for Reading's most vulnerable communities. UoR is listed as a partner for the project.
  • The Ross Gazette features a story on UoR graduate Mathilda Hodgkins-Byrne representing Team GB in the Tokyo Olympics.
