Laptop loan service

About

Our new laptop loan service, called LapSafe, allows students to borrow a laptop to work on for free.

The service was introduced after student surveys showed that 70% felt their laptop or computer had negatively impacted their learning, with 13% saying they had no regular access to a computer.

Funded by an Office for Students grant, we now offer 100 high-spec laptops for students to hire for up to eight hours from lockers in the Library.

Benefits

  • Gives students experiencing ‘digital poverty’ equal opportunities to succeed.

  • Allows all students access to online elements of our teaching, such as materials on Blackboard and online classes and meetings, and the ability to study in their preferred location.

Progress

  • Service live from September 2023.

  • Use of the service is now being monitored, with improvements to the service being considered, such as making laptops available in other buildings and campuses.
