AI Training 04
Teaching, Learning, and Assessments
The Centre for Quality Support and Development (CQSD) provides the official framework for how AI should be used in teaching and exams.
The 3 Categories of Assessment
The University uses a three-category approach to manage AI in student assessments. Module convenors will clearly state which category applies to your work:
- Category 1: AI use is strictly prohibited. You must demonstrate independent knowledge.
- Category 2: AI can be used to assist in the development of the work (e.g., brainstorming, structuring), but the final submission must be your own.
- Category 3: AI use is purposefully integrated into the assessment and is expected to be used.
Critical AI Literacy
Students and staff are encouraged to develop "critical AI literacy." This means understanding how AI tools work, recognizing when they might produce biased or incorrect information, and learning how to reflect on your own intellectual contribution when using them.
