Linguistics
COVID-19 update
Find out about how we'll be delivering our courses in 2020.
Language is at the heart of human life and is crucial to our understanding of ourselves as individuals, as members of society, and as a species.
At the University of Reading we offer you the opportunity to study all three aspects of this most complex form of human behaviour.
As a student in the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences you will explore the science behind language. You will benefit from our world-leading research in linguistics, language development and language disorders in monolingual and bilingual children and adults.
Over 85% of our research submissions were judged to be of international standing in the last Research Excellence Framework (2014). Additionally, many of our staff are practising speech and language therapists and will give you direct insight into the latest developments in clinical practice.
We are closely associated with the Centre for Integrative Neuroscience and Neurodynamics and the Centre for Literacy and Multilingualism. These provide state-of-the-art facilities including eye-tracking, EEG, fMRI and TMS, and a rich multidisciplinary research environment. We also house a purpose-built NHS speech and language clinic on campus, which means that you can access first-class observational facilities, a well-equipped speech research laboratory and a new sound recording room.
We provide excellence in research training across the language sciences, providing specialist and transferrable skills. You will benefit from the many collaborative ventures between staff within the school and across the university.
