This four-week programme is specifically designed for international students with an unconditional offer of postgraduate study from the University of Reading.

Why study the Postgraduate Success Programme?

Our programme will help you prepare for university academic life and enable you to get the most out of your master’s degree.

On the programme, we will:

  • introduce you to UK academic culture and student life
  • help you to improve the skills and practices you need to complete your master's degree
  • give you the opportunity to meet other international master’s students
  • help you to explore the digital campus and familiarise yourself with the University before you arrive.

What you'll learn on the programme

You will learn about:

  • the different types of assignments you'll experience and the research processes needed to complete them successfully
  • academic integrity and the conventions for acknowledging sources
  • the key academic language needed for successful postgraduate writing
  • how to critically analyse published research texts
  • how to present your work to your peers
  • independent learning and critical reflection skills.

Feedback useful for your future degree course

The programme is voluntary, so there is no assessment to pass. However, you will be asked to complete two tasks designed to enhance your knowledge and develop your skills:

  • a written critical review analysing texts from your chosen subject
  • an individual presentation involving reflection on your learning.
The course was well organised and engaging – a 90-minute class felt more like 10 minutes. The programme was designed to meet the needs of international students like me. The teachers were highly knowledgeable and supportive and provided valuable insights and guidance. Overall, it was an exceptional experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to succeed in their postgraduate studies.

The four-week online programme comprises one module (Academic Skills and English Language for Postgraduate Success) and is offered to international postgraduate applicants holding an unconditional offer with the University of Reading.*

Dates: 12 August to 06 September 2024.

Application Deadline: 30 July 2024.

Cost: £1,400

* A minimum of 4 students is required for this course to run.
