NDAs and student IP assignments

NDAs (also known as CDAs or confidentiality agreements) cover the sharing of confidential information but it should be noted that they cannot be used to cover other aspects of a project.  If the agreement needs to cover more than confidential discussions between the parties, please speak to your Contracts Manager who will be able to discuss the most appropriate form of agreement.

Student IP assignments cover a University of Reading student assigning ownership of the intellectual property created by them to the University or to another organisation.  This is commonly required by studentship agreements with industrial partners, and is in line with the University’s code of practice in intellectual property.

Both of these agreements are handled through our Self Service portal. This route is preferred as we will be able to use our own template agreements.

If, in the case of NDAs, you have already been provided a draft for review, please email the draft to researchcontracts@reading.ac.uk, providing:

  • any project number;
  • the purpose of the NDA (e.g. “to enter into discussions regarding a future collaboration on [xxx]”;
  • details of who the other party is.
