PURE: Information for Researchers

PURE is coming to the University of Reading

The University is introducing PURE, a new research information system that will bring together information about our research, researchers and research outputs in one place.

PURE will provide a central source of research information and will help us make better use of our research data, showcase the University's research activity and support researchers in maintaining an up-to-date research profile. PURE will also support the submission to REF 2029.

The system is being introduced as part of a wider programme to improve how the University manages and shares research information.

 

When will PURE be available?

 PURE is being introduced in phases with the first phase – outputs deposit - likely to go live in late Autumn 2026. Further information about the implementation timetable  will be shared through the University's research communications and updated on this page.

 

What does PURE mean for me?

As a researcher, you will have a PURE profile containing information such as:

  • your name, role and organisational affiliation
  • your research interests and areas of expertise
  • your publications and other research outputs
  • other information about your research activity, where applicable, including impact, prizes and press and media coverage

Your profile will provide a way to present your research interests and expertise within the University and, where information is appropriate to be made publicly visible, to external audiences.

PURE will also provide opportunities to make connections between researchers, research activity and outputs, helping the University to better understand and showcase the breadth and strengths of its research.

 

What are the benefits for researchers and technical services staff?

PURE is intended to make it easier to find and share information about research across the University.

For researchers and technical , this includes:

  • A profile that represents your research – bring together your research interests, expertise, outputs, applications and awards and activities in one place.
  • A central source of information – reduce the need to maintain the same research information in multiple places.
  • Support for research reporting and management – provide a more consistent source of information about research activity across the University
  • Greater visibility and better connections – help colleagues (internally and externally) and others discover your research and areas of expertise and make it easier to identify potential opportunities for collaboration

 

What will I need to do?

To prepare for PURE launch, we will need to pause the uploading of outputs into CentAUR in October/November (exact date tbc) and you will therefore need to make sure you are up to date with your deposits to ensure they meet OA requirements. We will provide further details closer to the time.

As PURE is introduced, you will be asked to:

  1. Deposit new outputs via PURE rather than CentAUR
  2. Access and review your PURE profile.
  3. Check that the information held about you and your research is accurate.
  4. Add or update information where needed, particularly your research interests and expertise.
  5. Check what information is publicly visible and make any appropriate changes.
  6. Use the guidance and support available to help you get the most from your profile.
