The modules on offer enable you to take advantage of the School's research strengths in the fields of international law, commercial law, European law, crisis, conflict and disaster management, and human rights.

You will benefit from teaching, supported by applied research led by our academics.

Our highly regarded academics regularly contribute to global and UK policy development and law reforms through their work with governments and regulatory agencies. They are regularly invited to speak at conferences and to provide their expert opinion in the media.

Some of our tutors are advisers to government and policy-making bodies like the Law Commission and the United Nations, whilst others have been involved with, or cited in, cases before courts, including the European Court of Justice and UK Supreme Court.

We offer you an extensive range of opportunities to broaden your practical experience and awareness, and develop your career prospects. Studying law will also equip you with valuable transferable skills, including public speaking, the formulation of legal arguments and the ability to think creatively.

Alongside careers fairs and workshops, we regularly organise sessions in which students can meet professionals, inviting external speakers to highlight career opportunities available to law graduates.

Our links with a variety of prestigious institutions, both locally and internationally, provide students with a variety of professional placement opportunities. For example, you can apply for work experience placements in local firms that are ring-fenced exclusively for University of Reading law students. 

Practice focused approach

We pride ourselves on the range of pro bono opportunities available, giving you the chance to put your legal skills to use in real-life situations. This experience is a valuable addition to your CV when applying for placements and training contracts.

You will also have the opportunity to participate in mooting (mock trials) and negotiation skills competitions, and to undertake training in providing legal advice and mediation.

Across many modules, you will also benefit from sessions led by guest speakers, who bring a wealth of practical experience and can bring the subject to life.
