Ms Alison Nader
School Director of Teaching and Learning
Active Projects:
I have been School Director of Teaching and Learning for the International Study and Language Institute since 2013. In this leadership role I am responsible for the quality assurance of the School's credit bearing programmes. I recently established a termly Community of Practice group, as a forum for all staff to have input into School and University Teaching and Learning development and am also working on encouraging student engagement in shaping the curriculum.
I teach French to students on the Institution Wide Language Programme. I have a particular interest in developing materials for students with different learning styles and from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
2016-17 I undertook a school funded project to develop workshop sessions for students who have difficulties with speaking and listening in French and am now convening a new module based on this work.
Prior to becoming the school SDTL, I was the IWLP Assessment Coordinator and I continue to be interested in assessment for learning, with a focus on feedback and feedforward.
I am an External Examiner for the 'Languages for All Programme' at the University of Leeds
Bio:
I graduated from l'Université de Grenoble, France and on returning to the UK completed an MA in Sociology. I worked in the private sector as well as part time lecturing at Reading in the French Department. On completing a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages, I developed my career in teaching French, in both further and higher education settings. In 2010 I added English teaching to my portfolio and alongside the French, have been teaching language development to China Scholarship high school English teachers on professional development courses.
