PGCert Evidence-based Psychological Treatment

​This PGCert Evidence-based Psychological Treatment course is focused on teaching evidence-based psychological interventions within a range of mental health problems.

Run by the Charlie Waller Institute (CWI) for Evidence-based Psychological Treatment, this course is suitable as an introduction for new professionals in the area of mental health, as well as existing therapists who wish to update their knowledge within evidence-based practice.

This course is ideal if you already work in the area of mental health and wish to improve your clinical knowledge in skills within psychological treatments which have been shown to be effective. We strive to keep the content of the course up to date and to make modifications when new evidence becomes available, or when the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) produces new recommendations.

You can attend specific modules according to your individual professional needs and working environment. Some modules hone skills and knowledge in a specific area (e.g. older people, trauma etc) and others cover a diverse range of disorders in less detail. Depending on the route and modules chosen, these programmes may or may not include clinical components. Each module holds a University credit evaluation, and on successful completion these credits can be accumulated towards a University of Reading qualification in Professional Development in Evidence-Based Psychological Treatment.

The PGCert can be done taking flexible modules throughout the year with the Flexible Professional Development Modules.

Tuition fee information

Fees can be paid in three instalments.

EU student fees

Additional costs

Some courses will require additional payments for field trips and extra resources. You will also need to budget for your accommodation and living costs. See our information on living costs for more details.

Financial support for your studies

Our PGCert/Dip programmes are designed for individuals who work in the area of mental health and wish to improve their clinical knowledge of psychological treatments that have been shown to be effective.
