Natalie’s principal research areas are company law, corporate criminal law, insurance law, access to justice and women’s rights. Her central areas of expertise are deferred prosecution agreements, directors’ liability, and D&O insurance.

Background

Dr Natalie is a Lecturer in Company Law at the University of Reading School of Law. She is Module Convenor of Law & Business, teaches Company Law, and supervises dissertation projects and PhDs. During her time at Reading, she has been nominated for the Teaching Excellence Award and the Academic Tutor Excellence Award.

Natalie is an expert in deferred prosecution agreements, directors’ liability, and directors’ and officers’ (D&O) liability insurance. She is published in corporate criminal law, corporate law, and insurance law, and has been called to speak and contribute on various connected issues. Natalie is a Consultant Editor at the International Journal of Economic Crime (IJEC) and a member of The Company Lawyer’s in-house team. Her most substantial publication is Deferred Prosecution Agreements and Directors’ Liability, which focusses on the impact of deferred prosecution agreements on implicated individuals, and is published in the prestigious Lloyd’s Insurance Law Library series. 

Natalie is highly engaged in research and advocacy on access to justice. She has submitted evidence to Parliament on access to justice in the context of out-of-court resolutions. She is an invited speaker of UN Women and, separately, of the UK Mission to the United Nations in conjunction with the UK Government’s Office for Equality and Opportunity (OEO).

Natalie is a notable advocate for the rights of women and girls. She is Co-Chair of the UK Civil Society Women’s Alliance (UKCSWA), an umbrella organisation and mechanism for non-governmental organisations and civil society to network and collaborate. In this capacity, Natalie works directly with the OEO to ensure positive outcomes at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, and to enhance national and international policy on the rights of women and girls. Her work as Chair of the Working Group on the CSW70 Agreed Conclusions was used by the OEO and UK Mission to the United Nations in negotiating the Agreed Conclusions, with proposed language reflected in the final international policy document. Natalie is a member of the Management Committee of the National Council of Women of GB. She is also a long-standing member of The Women’s Parliament, chaired by The Hon. Dr Jocelynne A. Scutt. 

Before joining the University of Reading, Natalie worked as a Lecturer in Law at the University of Buckingham. For her work there, she was entered to the long list for Law Teacher of the Year 2024, a national award hosted by Oxford University Press. At Buckingham, she taught Company Law (LLB), Corporate Law & Corporate Insolvency (LLM), Financial Crime and Money Laundering (LLM), Law of Torts (LLB), and Commercial Law(LLB).

  • March 2026: Invited speaker of UN Women at the United Nation’s 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), attended in New York. The Side Event, titled “Intergenerational Approaches to Access to Justice Across the Life Course”,was co-organised by UN Women, UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund), the Government of Ireland, the Government Offices of Sweden, and HelpAge International. Natalie was also an invited speaker of UN Women at a pre-CSW event was titled “Intergenerational Justice Circle (Life-Cycle Lens)”. 
  • March 2026: Invited speaker of the UK Mission to the United Nations in conjunction with the UK Government’s Office for Equality and Opportunity at CSW70. The Side Event was titled “Responding to and Preventing Violence Against All Women and Girls Across the Life Course”.
  • March 2026: Invited speaker of the UK Civil Society Women’s Alliance (UKCSWA) at a Parallel Event titled “Legal Literacy: Empowering Women – Unlocking Knowledge, Pursuing Justice and Rights”. Also presented at a Virtual Parallel Event co-organised by UKCSWA and Widows for Peace Through Democracy, titled “Under Occupation: Resilient Women Deprived of Visibility, Rights and Justice”.
  • March 2025: Delegate of the National Council of Women of GB at the United Nations 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, attended in New York.
  • September 2025: Speaker at the 42nd Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime, with two presentations. The first presentation covered “research and training”: teaching economic crime, and how we can encourage research in the area. The second presentation covered “cross-border crime and how to address it”: regarding globalised settlements in cases of deferred prosecution agreements (and their global “equivalents”).
  • March 2025: Delegate of Women’s Platform (Northern Ireland) at the United Nations 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, attended in New York.
  • March 2026 (also December 2025, March 2025, December 2024, March 2024, March 2023, March and December 2022): Member of The CEDAW Women’s Parliament, speaking on women’s safety and corporate responsibility towards women and girls, calling upon the UK Parliament and its devolved assemblies to transpose the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) into domestic law as a Women’s Bill of Rights.
