Drama

The interview may involve a number of candidates and will be conducted remotely via Microsoft Teams.

Prior to interview

  • Please watch the video presentation by the Programme Director – Will Bailey-Watson
  • Prepare a presentation on a piece of text which you think could be used as a stimulus for a Key Stage 3 drama activity. Please note that you should focus on just one activity and the presentation should be no more than 5 minutes long.

The text may be an extract from a play, a poem, a short story, a teenage novel, or a clipping from a newspaper or magazine.  You should explain why you think the text is appropriate and stimulating and deliver the presentation as if you are addressing a KS3 class (in other words, tell the class what you want them to do). The text can be emailed to the subject leader in advance of the interview if you wish.

The presentation should demonstrate both your knowledge and your communication skills. You will be required only to talk to us and not use PowerPoint or other presentation formats.

The remote interview process

Your interview will start with an introduction by Simon Floodgate (the subject leader for PGCE Drama).

You will then be given 5 minutes to talk through your presentation with the subject leader, following the advice given above.

You will then be asked a series of formal questions which will explore your motivations for becoming a teacher, your passion for teaching Drama, and look to draw upon your subject knowledge and specialisms. There will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions. This should take approximately 30 minutes.

Written task

Following the completion of the interview, you will be sent a written task via email. The written task will be explained to you further after your interview.

You will have one hour to complete the written task. Once completed, please return your written task to Simon Floodgate via email at: s.floodgate@reading.ac.uk

Please feel free to contact Simon should you have any questions.

If your/our network does not behave, please do not panic! We will email you using the addresses given in your application and we will make a contingency plan.
