Becoming a teacher

We offer a range of programmes, enabling you to train to teach at early years, primary or secondary level.

We offer PGCE, QTS and EYTS qualifications in early years, primary and secondary teaching; you will need to specialise in a certain age group and/or subject areas.

Here at the Institute of Education (IoE) we offer a variety of courses, from a foundation degree, undergraduate courses, through to postgraduate qualifications, Initial Teacher Education (ITE) courses and additional CPD opportunities.
We are ranked as one of the top 10 universities for Education in the UK (Guardian University Guide 2024). Students who study with us can be confident to receive high-quality, research-informed teaching that will challenge their thinking. We provide the highest levels of support to ensure our students get the best possible outcome alongside academic tuition that will facilitate students' career development, whatever their entry point or previous academic background.

We believe education is the most powerful tool we have. How we educate the next generation is the key to our future not only as individuals but also as a society. That's why we are committed to developing caring and professional individuals who share this ethos.

We teach a variety of undergraduate courses, those with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) as an outcome and those for people who are interested in education more broadly.

Our flexible postgraduate courses are ideal for educational practitioners looking to enhance their skills, share knowledge and develop professionally.

We have a long and established track record of research excellence, working with a wide variety of academic, business and governmental partners to achieve significant social and educational benefits.
