How you'll learn

Our academics use a variety of teaching methods to ensure your studies are of the highest quality, delivered through an interdisciplinary and research-led teaching approach.

Teaching is delivered through lectures, tutorial classes and group projects, with an emphasis on practical application through vocational modules and site visits. We foster an environment where students and academics learn from one another, building on each other's experiences and knowledge to remain at the forefront of our discipline.

Learn from experts

All of our academics are involved in both teaching and research: this enables them to feed their research directly into their teaching.  Our academics write the textbooks and journal papers from which you will study. This provides you with direct access to the latest cutting-edge thinking and enables you to be part of a learning experience across a broad range of individual subject areas.

Our academics' research specialisms include: construction economics, innovation studies, building information modelling, urban environments, technological change, Smart cities, modern methods of construction and collaborative working.

"You're taught by world-class lecturers - who better to be teaching you Construction Economics than the past-president of the Chartered Institute of Building? You can't beat quality like that."

Louise Lawson

BSc Quantity Surveying

Develop skills across disciplines

Our interdisciplinary approach is designed to enable you to develop the skills and knowledge you need to be successful in your career. This includes; the ability to analyse and discuss complex challenges from different viewpoints; to graduate with the crucial skills to problem-solve; and to become a leader in industry.

You will learn to be adaptable and resilient in a constantly evolving and ever-changing sector. This approach reflects collaborative ways of working within the industry, preparing you for your career beyond graduation.

You will benefit from being part of a larger School of the Built Environment, which brings Construction Management and Engineering together with Architecture. You will also benefit from our close links with the Department of Real Estate and Planning within Henley Business School. We place an emphasis on understanding the broader context, with an appreciation for the other disciplines you will encounter and work with on surveying and construction projects.

"Interdisciplinary learning has hugely benefitted me in my role as Construction Manager. Having commercial awareness really improved my decision-making and gave me a rounded education about the industry rather than just understanding how to do construction management."
