Chancellor's Building

Chancellor's Building, an £8.4m purpose-built facility that opened in 2017, is the home of the School of Construction Management and Engineering.

It has been designed specifically to facilitate a sense of community, and enables teaching and research activity to reflect the collaborative nature of working in industry. It houses specialist equipment to support practical work, and modern learning spaces including:

  • two teaching and research labs
  • social break out spaces
  • academic offices
  • a resource room

Chancellor's Building is located close to the centre of Whiteknights campus, where you'll find the University Library, Students' Union, and a variety of shops and places to eat. The campus itself is set on 130 acres of beautiful parkland, which has won the Green Flag award nine years consecutively.

Computer lab

Our purpose-built computer lab is equipped with PCs that can be used for independent work and group project work.

Resource room

Our dedicated resource room is packed with subject-specific books and journals. It also provides study space and seating areas that are ideally suited to informal meetings.

Immersive virtual reality

Our cave automatic virtual environment (CAVE) allows you to fully interact with 3D digitised environments. It reflects the growing use of immersive technology in industry.

Virtual learning environments

Students have access to virtual classrooms and lecture notes from wherever they're studying. They can submit coursework electronically and take advantage of many other aspects of the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to enhance their learning.

Innovative digital technologies

You'll have opportunities to experiment with and explore an array of digital technologies and software that are in use across the construction, surveying, engineering and energy industries today. They include:

  • building information modelling (BIM)
  • Oculus Rift head-mounted displays
  • 3D printers
  • 3D laser scanners
  • urban microclimate simulations
  • building energy simulations.

COVID-19: changes to your learning experience

At the present time we are adapting our School to provide a supportive and flexible learning environment for you, with appropriate social distancing measures in place to protect the health and wellbeing of our students and staff. This means that your experience as a student with us may be different than described.
