National Education Nature Park Affliate

Nature Park visits offer nurseries, schools and further education settings a chance to engage with a range of educational activities.

These are designed to help pupils connect with and learn about our natural environment.

Educational sessions

Nature Park sessions typically involve exploring a range of habitats and biodiversity around campus. They may involve visiting additional education facilities such as the Cole Museum of Zoology or the Atmospheric Observatory.. Depending on the learning objectives and activities, some sessions might take place entirely within the Learning Garden.

Garden topics

The Learning Garden has been designed to allow deeper understanding of themes including:

  • climate change
  • biodiversity
  • hydrology
  • food production.

The connections between these topics can be explored through an environmental, social and economic lens at a local, national and global level. They provide opportunities for integration across all subject areas.

Hands-on learning experiences and experimental features allow pupils to measure and record everything from soil moisture and air temperature to invertebrate diversity.

It also showcases actions schools can take to their own settings to increase biodiversity, become more climate resilient, and support climate action plans.

All supported Nature Park and Learning Garden sessions and activities are delivered or supervised by a member of the University team. They are free of charge for schools and education groups.
