Your life in the School

You will be part of a dynamic and collaborative teaching environment.

Our students are actively involved in research studies as participants, organisers and collaborators.

We are a research-led school, with our academics engaged in world-class research in a variety of topics.

We also host public lectures with notable figures in the field, providing you with access to current thinking and ground-breaking research.

I mainly chose to come to Reading as it's one of the few universities to offer a joint degree in philosophy and psychology. I also chose Reading due to the good reputation of the teaching staff, the University's proximity to London and the beautiful campus.

Our facilities

We have invested in state-of-the-art research facilities, including multiple brain imaging systems. We are unique in housing four clinical research facilities on site.

We house a number of highly regarded research centres. We also work closely with our partners in the NHS to support two on-site clinics, and run an independent centre for autism.

Psychology facilities

You will be working with leading researchers. Many of our students work with groups using the latest technologies and methods. Our range of facilities is extensive and includes:

  • cognitive and clinical assessments
  • eye-tracking
  • neuro-methods e.g. TMS, brain imaging by EEG
  • specialised units such as the baby and infant laboratories
  • virtual reality.

Specialist speech and language therapy facilities

Speech and language therapy undergraduate students can make use of our:

  • in-house speech and language therapy clinic
  • observational facilities
  • speech research laboratory
  • assessment and resources room.
Reading is the only university with a purpose-built NHS-recognised clinic on site. This is a huge advantage for students in terms of observation and placements.
