100 years. Countless stories. Endless inspiration. Reading’s Institute of Education has trained teachers who transform lives, shape communities, and innovate classrooms. This year, we celebrate their legacy and the future they continue to inspire.

100 years of impact

At the Institute of Education, we believe in the power of education to transform lives. For over 100 years, we have collaborated with local schools and educational settings to train teachers who inspire and lead young people to become aspirational, life-long learners. We are passionate about teacher education and proud of our enduring legacy at a local, national, and global scale, working together to provide high quality, inclusive and research-informed education.

The University’s centenary year has afforded us an opportunity to celebrate the impact of our teacher education. Through our centenary project, we have scoured the archives, rekindled relationships with alumni, and collated themes that reflect our rich history and our exciting future.

We hope this celebration serves as a springboard into the next 100 years, as we continue developing teachers, inspire communities, lead other educators, build diverse and impactful careers, and tackle contemporary challenges with imagination and purpose.

Working with our expert academics, dedicated professional colleagues, and inspirational school and setting partners, our goal is to sustain a supportive and intellectually stimulating learning environment, focused on developing the desire and skills to transform lives through education.
