How do I prepare for the subject-specific elements of my interview?

Please choose a topic within the Key Stage 3 or Key Stage 4 National Curriculum for Maths and be prepared to discuss how you would teach the topic. The discussion should last for approximately five minutes.

Please be prepared to answer questions relating to:

  • why you have chosen to teach the content your way
  • which aspects of the topic the students might find difficult.

You are not required to create any content such as PowerPoint slides, worksheets, or other resources for the discussion, although you can provide examples if you feel that would support you.

Additionally, as part of the interview process, you will be asked to complete a numeracy task. Further information about the numeracy task will be provided on the day of your interview. Please let us know if any adjustments are needed for you to access this task.

If you have any questions about the discussion that you need to prepare, or about the numeracy task, please contact the subject leader, Lindsey Ford (l.a.ford@reading.ac.uk), before the date of your interview.
