Movie: A Journal of Film Criticism

Movie: A Journal of Film Criticism

Movie: A Journal of Film Criticism
is a new online, free-to-access journal which is a joint venture between the Universities of Reading, Warwick, and Oxford.

It is the successor to MOVIE, the influential magazine launched in 1962, which played a crucial role in shaping the way we think and write about film. MOVIE pioneered the detailed critical analysis of film style and championed the achievements and distinctiveness of Hollywood directors such as Howard Hawks, Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Preminger and Nicholas Ray, developing critical methods that were crucial in establishing the systematic study of cinema. MOVIE had a longstanding association with the Department of Film, Theatre & Television and detailed analysis remains central to the department's work.

Movie: A Journal of Film Criticism brings together members of the original editorial board with a new range of writers sympathetic to its traditions of substantive criticism. It aims to create a forum for the range of analysis, debate and discussion that only a journal devoted to a detailed film criticism can adequately provide.
