Funded postdoctoral fellowships

We welcome applications for fellowships sponsored by research councils and other funding bodies to be supported by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. This may include cases when University matching funds are required.

If you are interested in applying for such a fellowship to be supported by our department, contact initially a member of staff in the research area of your interest, including

  • CV
  • list of publications
  • a short research proposal (2 pages max)

Below is a list of bodies that offer funding for fellowship schemes.

Leverhulme Trust

The Leverhulme Trust offers Early Career Fellowships.  For informal enquiries regarding this scheme, please contact Dr Stephen Langdon.

Royal Society

The Royal Society has various fellowship schemes, including the highly prestigious five year University Research Fellowships and the two year Newton International Fellowships, among others:

Daphne Jackson Fellowships

The Daphne Jackson Trust offers fellowships designed to return STEM professionals to their careers after a break.

EU Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions' Individual Fellowships

Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions' European Fellowships are open to researchers either coming to Europe or moving within Europe. See Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions' Individual Fellowhips for further details.

EPSRC Fellowships

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council offers fellowship in certain areas of mathematics and statistics, see EPSRC Fellowships. Note: EPSRC will only accept applications in the selected research areas. Applicants should refer to the thematic programme priorities for additional details on the research areas supported.

NERC Fellowships

The Natural Environment Research Council Fellowship scheme provides opportunities for outstanding environmental scientists to devote their time to:

  • research
  • develop their research careers
  • produce work of international importance

The Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851

The Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 offers major awards to scientists and engineers for research, development and design. Rado Fellowship in Mathematics / Statistics

This departmental postdoctoral fellowship was instituted in 2013, and is named after Richard Rado, who was an eminent long-standing member of the department.

Previous holders include Sean Prendiville(October 2013 - September 2014), Dennis Prangle (October 2013 - August 2015), Marcello Seri (September 2015 - June 2016), Simon Baker (September 2015 - August 2016) and George Papamikos (September 2016 - August 2017).
