Research projects

Renewable Energy Management and Adoption in Rural Communities. Case of Zambia.

The study seeks to address important aspects of Solar PV Renewable Energy adoption and provision in rural communities of Zambia. By taking a critical analysis from the neglected perspective of the rural communities, not served by national power grids, this study will explore reasons behind the mismatch between Solar PV energy provision (supply) and demand needs in Zambia’s rural communities. This will be done through understanding the current rural community; energy sources, who uses them, how they are used, why they are preferred, why they are prioritized and the extent to which Solar PV adds to the rural community energy mix. Anticipated development impact of the research / study includes access to reliable and sustainable energy sources for rural development, improving livelihoods, and reducing poverty levels. Others include informing policy and planning, promoting sustainable development and empowering rural communities.

Background

I hold a BA in Business Administration and an MBA (with Distinction and Best student) from the Copperbelt University. My MBA dissertation studied the effect of privatisation on the performance of the banking sector in Zambia using CAMELS indicators. I have 18 years of experience working in Education, prior to commencing my PhD. I have a special interest in Renewable Energy Management and promotion of sustainable energy generation.

Though for the first 6 years of my working career I served in middle management at the Copperbelt University as an Administrative Assistant to the Dean, I have been a Business Lecturer for most of my life (12 years) and I am currently employed by the Copperbelt University. I have done part time teaching at Diploma, Degree and Post graduate level at The Copperbelt University, The University of Zambia and at Reading University. I am a Commonwealth Scholar.
