Exploring Clients–Contractors Net Zero Practices and Interactions in Construction Projects

The construction sector plays a critical role in achieving national and global net-zero carbon targets yet translating these ambitions into practice at the project level remains challenging. This research investigates how net-zero objectives are implemented within construction projects, focusing on the interaction between clients and contractors as key stakeholders responsible for decision-making across the project lifecycle.

Background

I hold a BSc in Civil Engineering from Al-Nahrain University (Iraq- Baghdad) and an MSc in Project Management in Construction from the University of Salford (Manchester). My MSc dissertation focused on analysing the differences between standard forms of contracts, JCT, FIDIC, and NEC, specifically concerning delays, final accounts, and change orders. Prior to pursuing my PhD, I gained several years of experience in the oil industry. My key areas of interest include construction management, innovative design, and eco-friendly solutions, with a research focus on project management, sustainable design, and stakeholder.
