Following its inaugural Fellow, Dr Satoru Okajima, the University of Reading welcomes Dr Fumiaki Ogawa as its second Japan-UK Fellow.
Dr Ogawa is an Assistant Professor at the Mie University, where he works on midlatitude atmosphere-ocean interaction, particularly the role of sea surface temperature (SST) fronts in shaping storm tracks, jet variability, and the hydrological cycle. During his fellowship at Reading, he will collaborate with researchers in the Department of Meteorology, helping to strengthen research links between Japan and the UK. The Japan-UK Fellowship has been established at the University of Reading by Professor Brian Hoskins using the funds from his Japan Prize. The fellowship enables early-career scientists from Japan working in the dynamics of weather and climate to visit our department for 6-12 months to collaborate in research.
